The town of Mazama, Washington is actually a rural country village situated on the eastern slopes of the North Cascade Mountains. The town's population is a mere 200 people, which means that most of the Mazama area consists of open meadows and undeveloped forests, all set against a mountainous backdrop. For such a tiny community, the town is nonetheless full of amenities and attractions that make buying Mazama real estate attractive for just about anyone.

Shopping and Dining

Mazama was once a point of departure for those heading on to mining towns in the Hart's Pass area of the state. Since its inception, Mazama has continued to maintain its status as a crossroads, containing several retail shops and restaurants to serve those who pass through it. Travelers frequently stop by Goat's Beard Mountain Supplies to pick up gear for skiing, rock climbing, or mountain biking. Residents can also shop for fresh produce seasonally at the local farmer's market, or head to the General Store to pick up everyday necessities.

Owners of Mazama real estate also head to the general store for pizza night on Wednesday evenings whenever the local farmer's market is ongoing. The Freestone Inn offers lakeside dining and serves gourmet food in a casual atmosphere. Many of their entrees include meats free of hormones or antibiotics.

Parks and Recreation

A plethora of outdoor recreational opportunities exist near Mazama real estate. During the winter, the area is a prime location in which to go back country or heli-skiing. The largest groomed Nordic trail in North America also runs through Mazama, extending for more than 120 miles in all. During the summer, visitors flock here to go hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, fishing, golfing, river rafting, and rock climbing.

Mazama is also a short drive away from North Cascades National Park. This park offers a number of ranger-led programs and tours that are educational in nature. It is also an excellent place to head for a picnic or to sit back and relax while viewing native birds and wildlife.

Living

Residents of Mazama real estate enjoy a quiet, laid-back type of living, surrounded by some of the finest scenery anywhere in the Northwestern United States. Mazama is a welcoming kind of town, a place where everyone knows each other and neighbors quickly become like family. Most of the homes are in keeping with rugged beauty of the area, containing natural pine timbers and oversized windows that overlook the Cascade Mountains. In fact, scenic views are more the norm than the exception here, and houses are generally located on just enough land so that privacy is not a concern, yet residents do not feel isolated.

Schools, Health, Transportation

School-aged children in grades one through eight who are living in Mazama real estate can attend Methow Valley Community School in nearby Winthrop. This school prides itself on instilling teamwork and character development in its students, in addition to nurturing them academically. Liberty Bell Junior-Senior High School is another option for older students, and has been named a "School of Distinction" by the state of Washington for six years in a row. Adults can take advantage of the Monmouth/Winthrop Adult and Community Education center, which offers a variety of courses and also permits residents to obtain a GED or high school diploma.

For healthcare services, residents will need to travel to nearby Winthrop, where they will find a variety of physicians, dentists, and optometrists available. The closest hospital is Mid-Valley Hospital, located just over an hour's drive away in Omak. This hospital partners with other hospitals in the area to bring residents orthopedic and sports medicine care as well.

Mazama real estate is located along Washington Route 20, also known as the North Cascades Highway. This stretch of road spans from Newport to Discovery Bay, taking residents onward towards the Idaho border. Residents are also served by charter bus companies such as First Student or U.S. Coachways, while chartered limos and airport shuttles are available from Price 4 Limo. Mazama is also home to its own Lost River Airport, which provides local service, and those requiring long distance travel tend to book flights out of Bellingham International Airport.
