Carlton, WA Real Estate & Information

Home > Communities > Carlton real estate

Located just eight miles south of Twisp, Carlton, Washington sits on the Methow River at an elevation of 1,440 feet. It was established when an early settler moved three houses and a hotel to what is currently known as Carlton. That original hotel is still standing today, and is reminiscent of an earlier time when Carlton was a major hub for people traveling up the Columbia River or passing onward to points further west via stagecoach, train, or horseback. The original buildings have been moved about 1/4-mile past their previous location to make them closer to Highway 12, which was constructed in 1927 and provided a much-needed bridge over the Methow River. Investing in Carlton real estate will allow people to enjoy a nostalgic lifestyle and sense of community that's unlike anywhere else.

Shopping and Dining

For a town its size, Carlton nonetheless has a number of shopping and dining options to offer its residents. The Carlton General Store is where people go to pick up essentials or find out the latest happenings in the town. When it's time to go fishing, residents of Carlton real estate head to Methow River Fly Shop to stock up on all of their angling supplies. A few restaurants located a short distance away in Twisp, Methow, or Winthrop are:

  • Burnt Finger BBQ and Steakhouse, which specializes in BBQ and steak and also performs catering
  • Paco's Taco, a combination restaurant and grocery store that serves Mexican food and sells ethnic grocery items
  • Tappi, which is known for its wood-fired Italian food and choice wine selection
  • Twisp River Pub, serving seafood, pasta and salads. Live entertainment is available here on a regular basis

Parks and Recreation

A number of outfitters here provide guests with river tours that range from leisurely floats to adventurous whitewater rafting. Methow Adventures also provides some interesting activities ranging from sleigh rides at Christmastime to covered wagon rides during the summer months. Quite a few festivals take place in the area, one of which is the Manson Apple Blossom Festival. This festival includes a parade, homecoming, and festival queen pageant.

Living

Residents of Carlton real estate enjoy a small town atmosphere that has changed very little since its founding in the early 20th Century. Folks here know how to make the most of what life has to offer, easily adapting to the ever-changing weather the various seasons bring. Summers here are relatively mild, with daytime highs reaching into the 80s. During the winter, it's not unusual to see several days where the temperatures reach or even dip below zero. Unlike other parts of Washington, Carlton sees only around 19.63 inches of precipitation each year, which is approximately half the average in the entire state. This doesn't stop people from coming here to enjoy winter activities, as Carlton is well visited by outdoor enthusiasts nearly all year round.

Carlton real estate tends to consist of single-family homes on large lots that are anchored by plenty of mature pine trees. Many of these homes are as rugged as their surrounding terrain, containing cedar siding and natural stone to lend a rustic feel. Even so, they're not short on amenities, as these homes still have walkout balconies, covered front porches, and deluxe kitchens to make living in this natural wonderland as comfortable as can be.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Residents of Carlton real estate will likely travel to Twisp to attend Allen Elementary School or any of the other schools in the Methow Valley School District. Brewster Adventist School, Veritas Classical Christian School, Omak Adventist Christian School, and Chelan Valley Independent School are some of the private school options that are available.

Residents of Carlton real estate will find health care options available in Chelan, which is around a 45-minute drive away. Lake Chelan Community Hospital and Columbia Valley Community Health clinic are both located there, with doctors specializing in everything from pediatrics to behavioral health. Country Clinic is another medical center located in nearby Winthrop.

When it comes to transportation, most people get around easily enough by private auto via Highways 153, 12, or 20. During periods of inclement weather, it's not unusual to see people maneuvering through town via snowmobile or on horseback. Those planning extended trips will most likely book flights out of the Bellingham International Airport, or plan bus travel through Greyhound, U.S. Coachways, or Northwestern Trailways.
